New York (77WABC) – Senate Republicans on rejected President Joe Biden’s latest infrastructure proposal on Friday as next week’s deadline for a bipartisan deal approaches.
According to a report from the Associated Press, Republicans view his proposed 15% corporate minimum tax, so that all companies pay some kind of tax, as unnecessary. Biden and lead Republican negotiator Senator Shelley Moore Capito are set to talk again Friday with the GOP brining their own proposal.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told the AP that Democrats are taking steps to pass it on their own if talks with Republicans fall apart. Speaking after the release of the May jobs report, Biden stressed that he wants to push the economy past COVID-19 to start anew.

“Now is the time to build on the progress we’ve made,” Biden said in his Friday remarks. “We need to make those investments today to continue to succeed tomorrow.”
Negotiations with Biden and Republicans have gotten closer between Biden’s $2.3 trillion first proposal and the GOP’s $568 billion, but both are unsure of how to pay for a possible $1 trillion compromise.
