A Rape and Strangulation Suspect Arrested

Coram, NY (77WABC) – Suffolk County Police says a man who allegedly raped and strangled a  woman in a wooded area in Coram last Thursday  is scheduled for arraignment today at First District Court in Central Islip.

Jesse Diaz was arrested in front of 800 Montauk Highway in Shirley at approximately 6:40 p.m Wednesday evening. He was held overnight awaiting today’s court appearance.

Detectives from the sixth squad have charged the 29-year-old Shirley man with first-degree and second-degree strangulation.

Police say a woman who was walking along a trail near Route 112 and Skips Road in Coram last Thursday afternoon was allegedly raped and strangled by Diaz.

The woman, whose name has not been released was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center for treatment.
