Bronx, NY (77WABC)-A gunman believed shot in his arm by police after opening fire on NYPD officers managed to hide and escape police last night.
Police were called to East 174th St. and Hoe Avenue in West Farms around 7 pm following an incident at a Boost Mobile.
An armed man put up his hands as if to surrender but opened fire on police at close range. Police returned fire. It’s believed the gunman was shot by police in his arm.
The suspect then ran into a bodega at the corner of 174 Street and Hoe Avenue He then hid under a parked vehicle evading officers as they searched for him.
Due to a police involved shooting, please avoid the vicinity of East 174 St & Hoe Ave in the Bronx. Expect a large police presence in the surrounding area.

A police K-9 was brought in to try and track the suspect.
Police recovered the gunman’s weapon, a pistol, at the scene.
Two officers involved in the incident were taken to an area hospital to be checked out for tinnitus caused by the gunfire.
