NYPD Officer Walks Out of Hospital in Resilience, Day After Shooting

cop leaves hospital

After a deadly gang-related shooting in Bushwick Wednesday night, 28-year-old NYPD officer Brian McGurran walked out of Kings County Hospital the next afternoon in what the NYPD called a show of “resilience and bravery”.

McGurran was shot three times after exchanging gunfire with a 26-year-old suspect believed to be involved in the deadly gang shooting when the officers exchanged gunfire near Saratoga Park in Bedford-Stuyvesant Wednesday night.  The suspect was shot in his leg and is in stable condition at Brookdale Hospital.

In a press conference last night, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea says the events began with a gunman opening fire into a white SUV. The SUV crashed a short time later, where one occupant was found killed, one with a nonfatal gunshot wound and a third wasn’t injured. He added that all three are believed to be gang members.

He continued on saying three officers in an unmarked police vehicle spotted a man running near Saratoga Park.  The officers exited their vehicle and the suspect immediately pulled a gun and started shooting, exchanging gunfire with two of the officers including McGurran, when he was hit in the bulletproof vest, leg, and buttocks.
