It’s The Last Day On The Job For Suffolk County Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart

NY (77WABC)-After three years, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart of Sea Cliff is stepping down as Police Commissioner. The former FBI agent has accepted a higher-paying job as Hofstra University’s Public Safety Director.

Hart took command of the 2,400-member county police department at a time when the department was the subject of corruption and misconduct scandals. She led the department through a state-mandated 8-month long reform process.

Hart was the first female to head the Suffolk County Police Department in its 61-year history. The department was officially formed on Jan. 1, 1960. In 2014, Hart was promoted to field director of the FBI’s Long Island office, where the emphasis was on counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and public corruption.

Colleagues, family, and friends planned to line up outside Police Headquarters in Yaphank at Noon today May 7th  to honor Commissioner Hart during her final walkout.

Suffolk County Police Chief Stuart Cameron will serve as Acting Chief of the department until a permanent replacement is found. He reflected on his 36-years with the department back in February:

Hart is expected to begin her new job in June.
