Famed Restaurateur Danny Myer To Lead The NYC Economic Development Corporation

New York, NY (77WABC)-Founder of the Union Square Hospitality Group, Danny Myer, has been named Chair of the NYC Economic Development Corporation. The announcement on the same day NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio announced NYC will “fully reopen” on July 1st  from closures caused by the viral pandemic.

Myer spoke via video during Mayor DeBlasio’s briefing, “the recovery is happening, it’s an amazing confluence that that  I get to have the opportunity to get to be presented by you on the very day that that you announced this morning that New York would be open on July one, we could not be more excited and grateful.” He added, “I share your sentiment that New Yorkers are really the ones to thank.” Myer is referring to the Mayor crediting 6.3 million New Yorkers who’ve to date received Covid-19 vaccinations as a  big part of the reason why officials have been able to announce the July 1st reopening.

 

Myer said he realizes a lot of people need to be hired and hired quickly. He said he hopes to launch a partnership between the city and the EDC to get people back to work.

In 1985, at the young age of 27, Meyer opened his first restaurant, Union Square Cafe. His other restaurants include Gramercy Tavern, Blue Smoke and Jazz Standard, Shake Shack, The Modern, Cafe 2 and Terrace 5 at MoMA, Maialino at the Gramercy Park Hotel.
