A Teen Charged In A Fatal Crash Which Killed A Brentwood Woman

Central Islip, NY (77WABC)-Suffolk County Police say a 17-year-old is scheduled for arraignment today following his arrest for allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal crash last night in Central Islip.

A 52-year-old Brentwood woman was killed in the multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Islip Avenue and Locust Street around 8:15 pm Thursday evening. Her name has not  yet been made public pending notification of family members.

Police say the teen was driving a 2006 BMW 525 eastbound on Locust Street when he struck the passenger side of a southbound 2015 Honda Accord on Islip Avenue. The impact forced the Honda into oncoming traffic, where it was struck on the driver’s side by a northbound 2016 GMC pickup truck. The driver of the Honda, a 52-year-old Brentwood woman, was transported by Brentwood Legion Ambulance to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say the 17-year-old fled the crash scene on foot and was later arrested.

The driver of the GMC, 53-year-old  Bernardino Pereira, of Brentwood, was transported by East Brentwood Fire Department to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of minor injuries.

According to police, the 17-year-old was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death.
