A Toddler Killed In A House Fire In Suffolk County

(Gordon Heights, NY/77WABC)-The Suffolk County Police Department says a 23-month-old female toddler died in an early morning 3-alarm house fire at 69 Maple Lane in Gordon Heights, NY.

Sixth Precinct officers responded to the Maple Lane location after a 911 caller reported a fire at 3:08 a.m. Nine members of an extended family were inside the residence at the time of the fire.

After the fire was extinguished, the  23-month-old female victim was found inside the residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the toddler killed has not been released.

The following was posted to Twitter from News 12 Long Island:

Police say a 34-year-old woman, a 57-year-old man, a 4-year-old boy, and a member of Medford Fire Department were transported to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

The five remaining family members were unharmed.

The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and Arson Section detectives are investigating.

Gordon Heights, Yaphank, Selden, Farmingville, Middle Island, Medford, Holtsville, and Coram Fire Departments responded, along with Shirley and Medford Ambulance.

A preliminary investigation has determined the cause of the fire to be non-criminal in nature.
