NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says that when it comes to bringing students back into high schools, “we are ready to go.” Mayor de Blasio said at a virtual briefing Monday that it is a crucial piece of the city’s recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Public high schools will reopen for in-person learning on March 22 after being closed since November.

Officials say about half will provide in-school instruction to all or most of their students five days a week. The others will offer hybrid instruction. High school sports will also resume. Competitive play will start in May.
