Injuries After A Van Smashes Into An Outdoor Dining Area

(New York, NY/77WABC)Seven people were hurt after two vehicles collided at 2nd Ave. and 50th St. in Manhattan’s Midtown East around 8:30 this morning.

A van reportedly struck a vehicle, smashed thru the outdoor dining area, into a bus stop before coming to rest almost a block away.

The outdoor dining area, a bus stop, and a light stanchion were among the structures severely damaged. Scaffolding was also damaged.

The NYC Buildings Dept. has been called in to investigate the structural integrity of a building impacted as a result of the crash.

The FDNY and the NYPD responded to the scene. The driver of the van is in police custody.  77WABC News Reporter Lidia Curanaj is at the scene.

There are conflicting reports as to whether one of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. EMS says five adults and two children were hurt. At least four of the injured were taken to Bellevue Hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
