NYPD-Update
(New York, NY/77WABC)-The NYPD has charged a Brooklyn, NY man in connection with Friday’s stabbing of four people in midtown Manhattan which left one man dead and three others injured.
Police say 45-year-old Wiliam Smith of 486 Marion St. is charged in the death of 46-year-old Yong Zheng of 112 Bowery St. and the injuring of three others at 57th St. and &th Ave. in Manhattan.
Zheng had attended the Lantern Festival Friday evening when he was fatally stabbed as he tried to intervene in an attack against an Asian outside an illegal gambling den. The attack authorities say was over an unpaid gambling debt.
Smith is also charged with robbery and three counts of assault.
Friday evening’s attack left three others hurt, a 39-year-old male and a 42-year-old male, both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and remain in stable condition.
A fourth victim, a 49-year-old male, was also discovered at the location, having sustained a puncture wound to his body, and was treated at the scene.
Zhen was a married father of two, a 14-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son.
