The Death Of A Newborn Found In A Dumpster Ruled A Homocide

(Brooklyn, NY/77WABC)-The NYPD says the medical examiner has ruled that the death of a newborn found by police in a dumpster at 2925 West 27 Street in Coney Island on Feb. 17th, 2021 has been ruled a Homicide.

Police say they were called to the apartment of the infant’s mother, 27-year-old Jahmika Small after she called 9-1-1 reporting the newborn missing. A canvass of the woman’s apartment on 2949 West 28 Street, Apt#810B took place without the infant being located. The Emergency Services Unit was called in with the infant being discovered by police unconscious and unresponsive in the dumpster.

Small was arrested and charged on Thursday, February 18, 2021,  within the confines of the 60 Precinct in Brooklyn. She is currently charged with Reckless Endangerment and acting in a Manner Injurious to a Child Less Than 17 Years of Age.

The gender of the newborn has not yet been released.

An investigation is ongoing.
