NY: Second Avenue Subway Opens To Commuters
NEW YORK (77 WABC) – “Nothing is more important to me in life than perpetuating and continuing the Guardian Angel concept,” said Curtis Sliwa, founder and leader of the Guardian Angels.
77 WABC Radio is celebrating the 42nd anniversary of the group. The unarmed safety patrol organization was started by 77 WABC Radio’s very own Curtis Sliwa on February 13th, 1979.
The Guardian Angels became a safe haven for New York City residents. “Many of them [volunteers] could have easily become gang members,” said Sliwa.
The group is needed now more than ever in NYC due to the increase in subway crime.
The Guardian Angels is now in 13 countries and 130 cities.
