(Brooklyn, NY)-Electric transportation company Revel, based in Brooklyn, NY, announced this morning that it is launching a monthly eBike subscription service, “Coast by Revel.” This is the company’s third product and the first introduction of a new mobility option since launching its moped service in 2018. The new service “Coast by Revel,” is priced at $99 per month.
As of today, New Yorkers in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan can join the waitlist within the Revel app or on the Revel website. The eBikes will be available starting in early March.
“Revel’s mission is to electrify cities and our eBike subscription program is the next piece of the puzzle,” said Frank Reig, Revel CEO and Co-Founder. “We’re excited to give more New Yorkers the experience of eBike ownership without the hassles and to roll out our third product in our hometown.”
As for how Coast by Revel will work, Revel says members of the subscription program will receive their personal eBike delivered to their door free of charge. Customers will be billed monthly for the service. Revel’s full-time employees will manage all maintenance, including flat tires, loose chains, worn brakes, and any normal wear and tear, within 24 hours of riders filing a service request within the Revel app. The eBike also comes with a lock and educational materials around local traffic laws applicable to eBikes, safe riding, and best practices to avoid theft. To return the eBike, members can simply cancel their membership in the app and schedule a time for pickup.
Manufactured by WING Bikes, the Coast by Revel eBike is water-resistant and can reach a top speed of 20 miles per hour. The eBike battery can fully charge within 4 hours and can last up to 45 miles per charge. The eBike is also equipped to go up hills and over bridges with a smooth pedal assist that kicks in when riders need extra momentum, as well as a throttle option that powers the bike without the rider pedaling.
“WING Bikes designs and manufactures eBikes that are built for city streets and make cycling easy and fun for urban riders,” said Seth Miller, Founder of Wing Bikes. “Revel’s new subscription model expands accessibility even further by lowering the barriers to entry for eBike use, and we are pleased to partner with them to provide eBikes to New Yorkers on a month-to-month basis. Our shared vision is to transform mobility and bring a low-cost, safe, fun, and environmentally friendly way to move around cities.”
Revel, in partnership with FEND, is also able to offer all eBike members an exclusive discount on a Revel-branded version of FEND’s award-winning helmet. The FEND helmet features an integrated dial fit system and extra padding for the perfect fit and can easily fold by 50% to fit comfortably in any bag or backpack.
“FEND has created a bicycle helmet with a unique foldable design to easily fit in a bag or backpack–eliminating a common reason for forgoing helmet use,” said Christian Von Heifner, Co-Founder of FEND. “Our folding helmet represents convenience and safety and partnering with Revel to offer our helmets to their customers just makes sense. We’re working together to encourage transportation that is safe for both the user and the environment.”
Revel’s eBike news follows the company’s announcement earlier this month that it is building the largest universal electric vehicle charging depot in North America at the former Pfizer building in Brooklyn, NY. This Revel Superhub will feature 30 chargers open to the public on a 24/7 basis and accessible to owners of any electric vehicle brand. The company launched its flagship moped service with a small pilot program in three Brooklyn neighborhoods in 2018 before expanding its New York City service to Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx, growing its service area and fleet size to meet New Yorkers’ need for socially-distant modes of transportation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
