NEW YORK (77 WABC) — New York City has been hit the hardest by the Coronavirus outbreak, with 14,909 total cases. Millions have been urged to stay home.
The NYPD has begun patrolling the parks and streets to ensure residents are practicing appropriate social distancing. This week, Mayor Bill de Blasio is focusing on educating and warning New Yorkers not to congregate in public spaces.
Our parks are essential, but visitors must practice social distancing and keep six feet between themselves and others. Our enforcement officers and @NYPDnews are directing people to take precautions & not to congregate in our parks. Please social distance and save lives. pic.twitter.com/rLSOi1GaID

Last night, de Blasio said if that approach does not work, tougher restrictions like sanctions and playground closures could be put into effect.
