(New York, New York) – Sunny and cooler weather is settling into the New York City area, with the National Weather Service calling for dry conditions through the middle of the week.
As of 5 p.m. Monday, temperatures were in the low-to-mid 70s across the region. Central Park was at 72 degrees, LaGuardia and Kennedy were both at 75 degrees, and Newark hit 76 degrees.
Winds remained noticeable Monday afternoon, with northwest gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph in parts of the metro area. Forecasters say those gusts should diminish Monday night as skies stay clear.
Overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the 50s for much of the area, with some inland spots and parts of the Long Island Pine Barrens dropping into the 40s.
The National Weather Service says Central Park could fall to 57 degrees, which would mark the first time the low temperature there has dropped below 60 since June.
Tuesday is expected to stay on the cooler side, with highs mainly in the lower 70s under sunny skies.
Temperatures should begin to moderate Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure moves offshore, with highs climbing into the mid-70s to lower 80s.
The next chance of rain comes Thursday night as a cold front moves through the area, though forecasters say impacts are expected to be limited.
Any rain should move offshore by the Friday morning commute, with mainly dry weather returning afterward.
Another cold front could approach this weekend, bringing a chance of showers Saturday night into Monday, but forecasters say severe weather and flooding chances appear very low at this time.
