(Washington, DC) – Sen. John Fetterman is warning Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed that campaigning with Hasan Piker could become a liability in one of the country’s most closely watched Senate races.

Fetterman said winning a Democratic primary is different from winning statewide in November, arguing that El-Sayed will need to answer for alliances that may energize progressives but alienate swing voters.

El-Sayed is the Democratic nominee for Michigan’s 2026 U.S. Senate race and is expected to face Republican Mike Rogers. Republicans have already signaled they will try to define him by his left-wing allies and comments about Israel.

The warning adds to a broader debate inside the Democratic Party over whether progressive online figures help candidates raise enthusiasm or give opponents easy targets in general-election campaigns.
