(New York, NY) – A group of relatives of 9/11 victims is urging organizers to keep Mayor Zohran Mamdani away from next year’s 25th anniversary ceremony at Ground Zero.

The petition calls Mamdani an unwelcome guest and points to concerns about his public record and associations. Organizers of the petition said it had more than 6,500 verified signatures as of July 26, including hundreds from victims’ relatives.

The 9/11 Memorial and Museum has said the annual commemoration is intended to remain free of politics and centered on the families, survivors and first responders.

Mamdani’s office says he still plans to attend and honor those families. The dispute is already raising questions about how the city will handle one of the most solemn anniversaries in New York history.
