(Washington, DC) – A total of 173 House Democrats voted against a Republican-led resolution supporting law enforcement and condemning “defund the police” policies during National Police Week.
Republicans framed the resolution as a show of support for officers amid rising nationwide attacks on law enforcement personnel. Democrats who opposed the measure argued it was largely symbolic political messaging rather than substantive legislation.
The vote quickly became a flashpoint online, with conservatives accusing Democrats of refusing to stand firmly behind police officers, while Democratic lawmakers argued the GOP was using the issue for political theater.
