(New York, New York) – TSA wait times are reportedly dropping at airports across the country after federal officials deployed additional personnel from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to assist with operations.

The move comes as airports continue to face staffing shortages and increased travel demand, which have led to long security lines and widespread delays in recent weeks.

According to officials, ICE agents are not conducting passenger screenings, but are instead helping with crowd control, logistics, and operational support—allowing Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers to focus on security checkpoints.

Supporters of the decision argue the added manpower is already making a noticeable difference, pointing to shorter lines and faster processing times at several major travel hubs.

However, the move has also sparked criticism. Some lawmakers and aviation experts warn that ICE agents are not specifically trained in airport security and say the federal government should prioritize hiring and retaining TSA personnel instead.

Despite the debate, early signs suggest the temporary measure is easing congestion at airports—at least for now—as officials work to stabilize staffing and keep travelers moving.
