(Washington, DC) – Police in Washington, D.C., say there is no active shooter in downtown Washington after earlier reports prompted a major response in the city’s business district Friday.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed officers are currently investigating a bomb threat inside a building in the 1000 block of 14th Street NW, prompting several road closures in the surrounding area as a precaution.

Authorities also addressed earlier online reports claiming there was an incident at the Washington Post building, stating no incident occurred there.

According to MPD and DC Police Traffic officials, the following streets remain closed while the investigation continues:

  • 14th Street NW from L Street to I Street (both directions)

  • K Street NW from 13th Street to 15th Street

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and follow police directions as officers continue to investigate.

Officials stressed that no shooting has occurred in the area, and the initial reports of an active shooter were false. Police say updates will be provided as the investigation into the bomb threat continues.

The closures are precautionary while authorities assess the situation.
