(New York, New York) – A new bill being introduced in the New York City Council would raise the city’s minimum wage to $30 per hour by 2030, a proposal that would significantly increase pay for hundreds of thousands of workers.

The legislation would gradually increase wages over the next several years, eventually bringing the minimum wage to $30 an hour by the end of the decade. If passed, the policy would make New York City’s minimum wage one of the highest in the United States.

Supporters of the proposal say the increase is necessary to keep up with the rising cost of living in the city, arguing that the current minimum wage is no longer enough for many workers to afford housing and basic expenses.

Critics, however, warn that such a sharp increase could put pressure on small businesses, potentially leading to higher prices, fewer jobs, or reduced hiring.

The bill will now move through the City Council legislative process, where it is expected to face significant debate before any potential vote.
