(New York, New York) – A Honduran migrant has been arrested after police say he shoved two strangers — including an 83-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran — onto subway tracks in a disturbing attack inside a Manhattan subway station.

The incident reportedly took place Sunday at the Lexington Avenue–63rd Street subway station on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. According to investigators, the suspect approached two men separately from behind and pushed them onto the tracks before calmly walking away from the scene.

One of the victims, an 83-year-old Air Force veteran, suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized. Family members say the elderly man sustained severe head trauma and brain bleeding and is currently being treated for life-threatening injuries.

A second victim, a 31-year-old man, was also shoved onto the tracks earlier in the attack. Witnesses and bystanders quickly rushed to help both men climb back onto the platform before a train entered the station.

Police later identified the suspect as 34-year-old Bairon Hernandez, who was taken into custody Tuesday at a Brooklyn homeless shelter after authorities received a tip.

He is now facing several charges, including attempted murder, assault, and reckless endangerment, according to law enforcement officials.

Investigators say the attack appears to have been random, with no known connection between the suspect and the victims.

The shocking incident has once again raised concerns about public safety in New York City’s subway system, where riders have reported an increase in violent incidents in recent years.
