(Tehran, Iran) – U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that six American service members have now been killed during Operation Epic Fury, following the recovery of the remains of two troops previously unaccounted for.
According to CENTCOM, the remains were found at a facility struck during Iran’s initial retaliatory attacks in the region. A U.S. official and a source familiar with the matter told CBS News that all six service members were killed in Kuwait as a result of the same Iranian strike over the weekend.
The Pentagon has not yet released the identities of the fallen service members as next of kin are being notified. CENTCOM said that “major combat operations continue.”
President Trump: War Could Last Weeks
President Trump described the conflict as the “last best chance” to address what he called the threat posed by Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs.
In remarks to the New York Post, Trump said the military campaign could last four to five weeks, with the “capability to go far longer than that.” He also declined to rule out the possibility of deploying U.S. ground troops into Iran if deemed necessary.
