(New York, New York) – Emergency responders are searching the Hudson River after a small aircraft went down Monday night near the Newburgh–Beacon area.
Officials say the plane involved is a Cessna 172, a four-seat, single-engine aircraft frequently used by flight schools and private pilots. Federal aviation records show the aircraft, tail number N1560E, is registered to American Airman Inc., a Long Island-based flight training company.
Flight tracking data indicates the plane took off from Long Island MacArthur Airport before losing signal over the Hudson River roughly 60 miles north of New York City. The last known location places the aircraft near New York Stewart International Airport in Orange County.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many individuals were on board at the time of the crash, and their condition remains unclear.
Search and rescue crews were dispatched to the river shortly after reports of the incident surfaced. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.
This is a developing story.
