(New York, NY) – Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sat down for a closed door deposition in front of the House Oversight Committee. The pair were called to testify on their ties to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Both vehemently denied any wrongdoing despite some racy pictures that have been recently published by the Justice Department showing Clinton in the hot tub with Epstein and unidentified women. The depositions come after the pair were facing threats of being held in contempt of Congress for their initial refusals to testify.

Clintons’ Eleventh Hour Agreement

Back in August, the Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee issued subpoenas to ten people, including the Clintons, to testify on the sordid crimes committed by Epstein. They were originally set for an earlier deposition in October, which was moved to December, which was then again moved to January. However, Clinton never showed. Later in January, the Oversight Committee agreed to find the two in contempt of Congress for defying the subpoenas. By February, the Clintons “caved” according to Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and agreed to appear for a taped and transcribed deposition.

Leaked Pics Delay Proceedings

Former Secretary Clinton’s hearing on Thursday was momentarily paused after claims of rules violations. Conservative influencer Benny Johnson tweeted out a picture of Clinton sitting before lawmakers. Taking a photo during an ongoing deposition and posting it online is a violation of House rules. Boebert defended herself saying that “Benny did nothing wrong”.

GOP Call Hillary “Unhinged”

Following the former President’s deposition, lawmakers spoke to the press giving a recap of the hearing as press was not allowed inside. Comer and other members of the committee spoke about the difference between the two hearings. A fellow rustbelter, Comer said Bill Clinton’s testimony went much smoother than his wife’s because of his “Southern people skills” and charm.  Even before the second hearing, Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) signalled she hopes the former President has a different attitude during the hearings calling his wife “unhinged” during the proceedings a day prior.

Former President’s Familiar Video Address

After addressing the committee, Clinton read out his opening statement in a video on social media.

Some users on social media were quick to point out similarities between his statement regarding Epstein and a previous address apologizing for lying to a grand jury amid the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

Bill Says Leave Hillary Alone

The former President Clinton says things got personal for him when the committee issued the subpoena for the former Secretary and First Lady. He claims his wife was not familiar with Epstein and Congress issuing her a subpoena was wrong. Clinton went on to say that as someone who grew up witnessing domestic violence at home, if he had any idea of the abuses being carried out by Epstein he would have led the calls for justice. The deposition in the Clintons’ hometown of Chappaqua, New York, marked the first time a former president has been compelled to testify to Congress. Both taped depositions are set to be released soon.
