(Prince William County, Virginia) – More than 300 students at a Virginia high school were suspended after a student-led anti-ICE walkout escalated off campus and prompted a police response.

Prince William County Public Schools confirmed that 303 students at Woodbridge High School were suspended following the demonstration, which took place Friday morning.

Students Left Campus During Walkout

According to Principal Heather Abney, students exited the building to “express their views on an issue that is important to them.” However, officials said the situation crossed a line when participants left school grounds entirely.

In a letter sent to parents, Abney acknowledged that walkouts are a recognized form of expression, but emphasized that students are expected to remain on campus during the school day.

Police were called to the area to manage traffic and provide supervision as students gathered outside school property.

“We appreciate your partnership as we continue to prioritize student safety while maintaining clear expectations for appropriate conduct during the school day,” Abney wrote.

Organizers Planning Countywide Protest

Following the suspensions, an Instagram account called @pwcs_iceout appeared, reportedly created by students, calling for a countywide walkout scheduled for Friday, February 20.

“It’s time to take a stand and we are grateful to have the opportunity to exercise our constitutional rights,” organizers wrote.

The group encouraged students across Prince William County to participate, advising them to watch for location-specific instructions from student leaders. In a post, organizers claimed school administrations had been informed of the protest plans — though they later clarified the event was not officially endorsed or approved by school officials.

Participants were encouraged to bring posters, flags and speakers.

Organizers also urged protesters to remain peaceful.

“Peaceful protests are much more powerful as they show that your voice matters, that you stand together, and that the message is about the issue, not conflict,” one post read. “Staying calm and focused allows everyone to be heard safely and makes a bigger impact in the long run.”

School officials have not indicated whether additional disciplinary action could follow if students leave campus again.
