(Vatican City) The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Leo XIV will not participate in U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace,” with the Holy See’s top diplomat stating that international crises should remain under the purview of the United Nations.

Speaking on the matter, the Vatican’s Secretary of State emphasized that while the Catholic Church supports efforts aimed at promoting peace and dialogue, formal crisis intervention and diplomatic coordination should be handled through established international institutions. The diplomat indicated that the United Nations remains the appropriate global body for managing conflict resolution efforts.

Trump recently floated the idea of creating a “Board of Peace” composed of prominent global figures to address international disputes and instability. While details of the initiative have not been fully outlined, it has drawn attention for potentially operating outside traditional diplomatic frameworks.

The Vatican’s response signals a preference for multilateral cooperation through existing channels rather than participation in a new advisory structure. The Holy See has long advocated for diplomacy, humanitarian engagement, and respect for international law in addressing global conflicts.

Neither the White House nor representatives of Trump’s team immediately responded to the Vatican’s position.
