(Washington, DC) – Hillary Clinton is warning that the proposed SAVE Act could make it harder for millions of married women to vote.

In a recent post, Clinton pointed to the nearly 70 million American women who changed their names after marriage and argued that the legislation would create new hurdles at the ballot box.

“Republicans in Congress want to make it harder for you to vote,” she wrote, urging followers to tell their senators to oppose the bill.

Supporters of the SAVE Act say the measure is designed to strengthen election integrity by requiring proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote. Critics, including Clinton, argue the added documentation requirements could disproportionately affect women whose current legal names differ from their birth records.

The bill remains under debate in Congress.
