(New York, NY) — It’s been freezing this February, but New York City is currently looking for lifeguards for the summer season. Mayor Zohran Mamdani says the city starts hiring lifeguards in the winter.
The city has been experiencing a lifeguard shortage since the coronavirus pandemic, forced to limit hours as some pools and beaches in the summers since. To qualify, candidates need to be
- 16 years old by July 18th,
- pass a vision exam,
- and be able to swim 50 yards in 50 seconds or less with correct form.
