(Washington, DC) – House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer has filed to open an investigation into the rapidly growing net worth of Rep. Ilhan Omar, raising new questions about the Minnesota Democrat’s finances.
Comer said the probe will focus on financial disclosures and whether Omar’s reported wealth increase aligns with her congressional salary and outside income. The move comes amid growing scrutiny from conservatives and watchdog groups who argue that lawmakers should face heightened transparency regarding personal finances.
Omar, a prominent member of the progressive “Squad,” has not responded publicly to the filing. She has previously denied any wrongdoing and has said her finances comply with congressional disclosure rules.
The Oversight Committee has broad authority to examine potential ethics issues involving members of Congress, and Comer has signaled the panel will aggressively pursue financial accountability across both parties.
The investigation marks the latest flashpoint in ongoing political battles surrounding ethics, transparency, and money in Washington.
