(New York, NY) – Odessa A’zion, fresh off her role in critically acclaimed “Marty Supreme” as the romantic lead opposite Timothée Chalamet, is out of an upcoming movie only 48 hours after the initial casting announcement. A’zion was set to play the character Zoe Gutierrez from Holly Brickley’s novel “Deep Cuts” in an upcoming A24 project, according to several reports.

However, the casting decision raised some eyebrows online among fans of the novel. A’zion defended herself on social media saying she had not read the book prior to the audition. The “I Love LA” actress said she was offered the role after originally going for another character. Once she heard Zoe’s character has Mexican heritage in the book, she decided to opt out of the Sean Durkin adaptation saying there are plenty of other performers more fit for the film.
