(Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) – Oklahoma Democratic State Rep. Ajay Pittman has resigned from office after pleading guilty to forgery and conspiracy charges, state officials confirmed.
Pittman’s resignation follows her guilty plea in a criminal case stemming from allegations that she participated in forging documents and conspiring with others to carry out the scheme. Court records show the charges are felonies, carrying potential prison time and fines under Oklahoma law.
Details of the case have not yet been fully released, but prosecutors said the charges involve falsified documents and coordinated actions intended to deceive. Pittman entered the guilty plea as part of a legal agreement and formally stepped down from her legislative seat shortly afterward.
Pittman, who represented parts of Oklahoma City, was first elected to the state legislature in 2020. Her resignation creates an immediate vacancy, which will be filled according to state law.
Oklahoma Democratic leaders acknowledged the resignation but did not immediately comment on whether the party would seek disciplinary action prior to her departure. Republican leaders called the case a reminder of the need for accountability among elected officials.
Further court proceedings are expected as sentencing has not yet been announced.
