Winter storm spreads across a large swath of the United States
(New York, NY) — Mayor Zohran Mamdani is in the spotlight for his fashion choices, as much as his storm updates. New Yorkers have been buzzing about the different jackets the mayor has been wearing during news conferences surrounding the recent snowstorm — attention that even caught the eye of GQ, which wrote about his evolving outerwear on its website.
According to GQ, Mamdani first appeared in a green, tech-forward sanitation department jacket, followed on Sunday by a custom, personalized black Carhartt jacket embroidered inside the collar with the phrase, “No problem too big, no task too small.” The jacket was custom-embellished by the Bushwick, Brooklyn-based company Arena Embroidery. The log was designed by Noah Neary, senior advisor to First Lady of New York City Rama Duwaji.
Meantime, On Monday, the mayor switched to an “Emergency Management” jacket as he announced that New York City public school students would attend classes virtually.
The jacket chatter made residents think of former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who became known for wearing blue fleece quarter-zip sweaters during storm briefings. — a reminder that in a crisis, a leader’s wardrobe can also become part of the public narrative.
