(Chicago, IL) – The Doomsday Clock is inching closer to midnight. The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists updated the Doomsday clock to 85 seconds to midnight on January 27, 2026.
The symbolic clock represents how much time is left until potential self destruction. This marks the closest the clock has ever been to midnight in its 79-year history. Created in 1947 and measuring the possibility for annihilation throughout the Cold War, the clock was previously set at 89 seconds to midnight.
