(Washington DC / Minneapolis) – President Donald Trump said Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz reached out to him directly to discuss cooperation on law enforcement and immigration enforcement in the state, signaling what Trump described as a productive shift amid unrest in Minnesota.

In a statement posted Monday, Trump said Walz called him requesting to “work together with respect to Minnesota,” describing the conversation as “a very good call” in which the two leaders appeared to be “on a similar wavelength.”

Trump said he informed Walz that former ICE Director Tom Homan would be reaching out, emphasizing that federal authorities are focused on removing “any and all criminals” currently in custody or under investigation. According to Trump, Walz “very respectfully understood” the mission and welcomed Homan’s involvement.

The president also claimed that federal enforcement efforts have already produced significant results in cities such as Washington, D.C., Memphis, and New Orleans, arguing that crime has dropped in areas where federal agencies have been active. Trump said Minnesota has also seen improvement, but that both leaders agreed “we want to make it better.”

The comments come after weeks of sharp criticism from Walz and other Democratic officials over federal immigration operations in Minnesota following recent fatal encounters involving ICE and Border Patrol agents. Trump’s remarks suggest a potential de-escalation between state and federal leadership as enforcement efforts continue.

As of Monday, Walz’s office had not publicly commented on Trump’s account of the call.
