(Minneapolis, Minnesota) – A Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officer had part of his finger bitten off during a violent confrontation with a protester in Minneapolis on Saturday, federal officials confirmed. The assault occurred during clashes between demonstrators and federal law enforcement as officers worked to secure areas near protest activity. A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said the officer was attacked during a physical struggle and sustained a severe finger injury consistent with a human bite.
Photos released by federal officials showed the officer’s injured hand after the incident. Authorities did not immediately say whether the severed portion of the finger could be reattached or provide details on the officer’s condition. At least one suspect was taken into custody in connection with the attack, and the incident remains under investigation. Federal officials said additional charges are expected.
The Department of Homeland Security condemned the assault, calling it an act of extreme violence against law enforcement personnel carrying out their duties. Officials said the officer was transported for medical treatment following the attack.
The incident marks one of the most serious injuries reported during protests in Minneapolis in recent weeks, as federal authorities continue to monitor unrest and maintain security around protest sites.
