(New York, New York) – Commentator Stephen A. Smith sharply criticized California Gov. Gavin Newsom over his appearance at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, questioning why a U.S. governor would speak critically about the president while abroad.
“Why are you in Davos, Switzerland, speaking negatively about the President?” Smith asked, arguing that American leaders should present a united front when addressing international audiences. “When we go somewhere else, it’s America first,” he said.

Smith added that political disagreements should be handled at home, not aired on the global stage. “You don’t go on a world stage to disrespect your own house,” he said, framing the trip as poor optics at a time of heightened international scrutiny of U.S. leadership.
The comments quickly gained traction online, tapping into a broader debate over whether American officials should criticize domestic leadership while overseas- especially at high-profile global gatherings like Davos.
