(San Diego, California) – Six activists were arrested Friday after barricading themselves inside the San Diego mayor’s office in a dramatic protest demanding tighter restrictions on cooperation between local police and federal immigration authorities.
The group entered San Diego City Hall around 10 a.m., calling on Todd Gloria to impose stricter limits on local law enforcement’s interaction with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. After receiving no immediate response to a meeting request, the activists locked doors, posted signs declaring the space the “People’s Office,” and remained inside for hours.
Police eventually removed the barricade shortly before 5 p.m., leading to the arrests. No injuries were reported.
Mayor Gloria addressed the incident on X, saying his administration had already engaged with advocates on immigration concerns and noting that a July 2025 executive order bars city involvement in federal immigration enforcement. While reiterating support for peaceful protest, Gloria called the occupation a public safety hazard and said it disrupted city operations.
The takeover underscores escalating tactics by anti-ICE activists nationwide, as demonstrations increasingly move from rallies into government buildings to force immediate policy action.
