(Washington, DC) — The FCC is making changes to its rules for certain late night and daytime talk shows. According to a public notice made on January 21st, the shows may no longer be exempt from being required to provide equal airtime to opposing political candidates.
The notice added that “the FCC has not been presented with any evidence that the interview portion of any late night or daytime television talk show program on air presently would qualify for the bona fide news exemption.”
The move follows criticism from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr about a number of leading late night and daytime talk shows on major networks like ABC, NBC and CBS.
