(The Moon) – NASA is preparing to send astronauts back toward the Moon with its Artemis II mission, marking a major milestone in human spaceflight.
The mission will carry a crew aboard NASA’s Orion spacecraft on a multi-day journey around the Moon, testing critical systems needed for future lunar landings. While astronauts will not land on the lunar surface, the flight is designed to push humans farther into deep space than they’ve traveled in decades.
Artemis II is a key step in NASA’s broader Artemis program, which aims to establish a long-term human presence on the Moon and eventually pave the way for missions to Mars. Engineers will closely monitor spacecraft performance, life-support systems, and navigation as the crew loops around the Moon and returns to Earth.
If successful, the mission will clear the way for future flights that could put astronauts back on the lunar surface for the first time since the Apollo era.
