(Washington, DC) – President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued a forceful public message backing protesters in Iran, calling on what he described as “Iranian Patriots” to continue demonstrations and urging them to take control of their country’s institutions amid reports of deadly crackdowns.
In a statement posted publicly, Trump said he had canceled all meetings with Iranian officials, citing what he called the “senseless killing of protesters.”
“Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING — TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!!” Trump wrote. “Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price.”
Trump added that diplomatic engagement with Tehran would remain frozen until violence against demonstrators stops.
“I have cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOPS,” he said, adding, “HELP IS ON ITS WAY.”
The message ended with the slogan “MIGA,” a phrase Trump has previously used in reference to “Make Iran Great Again.”
The statement comes amid escalating unrest in Iran, where protests have flared following reports of government violence against demonstrators. Iranian authorities have not publicly responded to Trump’s remarks.
The White House did not immediately release additional details about what form assistance to protesters might take or whether Trump’s comments reflect a formal policy shift.
Trump has previously taken a hard-line approach toward Iran, favoring sanctions and diplomatic pressure while publicly supporting opposition movements critical of the Iranian government.
