(Washington, DC) – President Donald Trump on Monday announced a sweeping new trade penalty targeting countries that continue to do business with Iran, declaring that they will immediately face a 25% tariff on all trade with the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the policy takes effect “immediately” and left no room for negotiation. “Any Country doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will pay a Tariff of 25% on any and all business being done with the United States of America,” he wrote, adding that the order is “final and conclusive.”

The announcement represents a sharp escalation in Trump’s economic pressure campaign against Tehran and its international partners. While the White House has not released additional details on enforcement, the move effectively forces foreign governments and companies to choose between access to U.S. markets or maintaining commercial ties with Iran.

The decision is expected to put particular pressure on China, one of Iran’s largest trading partners, especially in energy and industrial sectors. Analysts say the tariffs could ripple through global markets, reignite trade tensions, and further entrench Trump’s use of tariffs as a central tool of U.S. foreign policy.
