(New York, NY) – Deadheads are mourning the loss of legendary guitarist and co-founder of Grateful Dead, Bob Weir. Weir’s family announced his passing on Saturday due to lung issues. Weir had previously been diagnosed with cancer, but beat the disease this past July. Weir met his fellow bandmate Jerry Garcia as a teenager in Palo Alto, California. Weir was the youngest member of the iconic rock group and is responsible for hits like “Sugar Magnolia,” “Truckin’,” “Cassidy” and “Throwing Stones.” The band released 13 studio albums and dozens of live albums, as they gained a reputation for their “Wall of Sound” set up with massive speakers stacked on top of each other.

Following the passing of Garcia in 1995, Weir got the band together again as “Dead & Company”, and continued performing in sold out tours. He is survived by his wife, Natasha, and his daughters Monet and Chloe.
