(New York, New York) – A new bill introduced in the house deemed the ‘MAMDANI Act,’ would cut off all federal funding for citizens in NYC as long as Mamdani is the Mayor.
Supporters argue taxpayers should not be forced to subsidize what they describe as radical policies in a city already struggling with crime, high costs, and out-migration.
Mamdani, a former state assemblyman who upset political insiders by defeating Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary, has drawn national attention for his hard-left views, including attacks on the NYPD and support for sweeping government control over housing and food markets. Critics warn his agenda mirrors failed socialist experiments abroad, while supporters claim it represents reform.
President Donald Trump has separately suggested New York could lose federal support under Mamdani’s leadership, calling the city’s direction a financial and social disaster. While the MAMDANI Act currently has no cosponsors and faces a long road in Congress, it reflects growing Republican resistance to funding Democrat-run cities they view as ideologically extreme.
For now, the bill serves as a clear warning shot: under Republican leadership, federal dollars may no longer flow freely to cities that reject traditional law-and-order governance and free-market economics.
