(New York, NY)  —  Another court hearing is scheduled for later this week in the case involving Luigi Mangione, who is accused of killing United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson . During the upcoming hearing, Mangione’s defense team is expected to argue that prosecutors should be prohibited from seeking the death penalty. They are also asking the court to exclude certain evidence and statements from being used at trial.

In addition, defense attorneys are calling for Attorney General Pam Bondi to step aside from the case, citing what they describe as a “profound” conflict of interest. They claim Bondi’s past and ongoing financial ties to Ballard Partners—a lobbying firm that represents UnitedHealthcare—violate Mangione’s due process rights. The hearing is scheduled to take place on Friday.
