(Washington, D.C.) – A left wing protestor was taken into custody Tuesday evening after disrupting a peaceful march near The Eclipse commemorating the 5th anniversary of the January 6th Capitol incident.
The march was organized by groups advocating for January 6th defendants, and was underway when D.C. activist Patricia Eguino entered the crowd with a megaphone shortly before 5 p.m. Witnesses say attendees responded with patriotic chants as tensions rose, culminating in a brief physical confrontation over the megaphone and a nearby flag pole.
Luckily, no injuries have been reported. Metro police stepped in quickly, and arrested Eguine. Authorities have not yet announced formal charges.Â
Footage of the arrest spread rapidly online, drawing mixed reactions. Conservative voices largely defended the police response, arguing that counter-protesters should not be allowed to disrupt permitted demonstrations.Â
Others criticized the confrontation as unnecessary political theater. The anniversary of January 6th continues to stir strong emotions, heavy security, and sharply divided interpretations of what occurred that day.
