(New York, New York) – Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is facing renewed backlash after comments he made about supporters of former President Donald Trump resurfaced following his decision not to seek re-election.

During an appearance on a podcast hosted by California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Walz dismissed Trump supporters in blunt terms, saying, “I think I can kick most of their ass.”

The remark circulated widely online, drawing criticism from conservatives who described it as inflammatory and dismissive.

One user responded to the incident on X saying, “Two narcissists pretending like the(y’re) worth something…”

The renewed attention comes as Walz has announced he will not run for a third term as governor in 2026. Walz has said the decision was made to focus on governing rather than campaigning amid heightened scrutiny surrounding fraud cases tied to Minnesota state-administered programs. He has denied any wrongdoing.

Critics, however, argue the timing is notable. Conservative commentators point to a viral investigation by a 23-year-old Trump supporter that raised questions about oversight and accountability in Minnesota’s social services system, framing Walz’s exit from the race as politically motivated rather than voluntary.

Walz has pushed back on such characterizations, previously calling attacks against him “dangerous” and “depraved,” while insisting his administration is taking steps to prevent future fraud. No criminal charges have been announced against Walz in connection with the allegations.

The controversy highlights the increasingly personal tone of political rhetoric as national figures and state leaders clash ahead of the 2026 election cycle, with Walz’s past comments now resurfacing as he enters the final stretch of his term in office.
