(New York, NY) — New York Governor Kathy Hochul is celebrating the first anniversary of congestion pricing.

At an afternoon news conference January 5, 2026,  Hochul said congestion pricing south of Manhattan’s 60th Street has produced “extraordinary results.” She said traffic entering the congestion zone is down eleven-percent with 27-million fewer cars going into that zone. Hochul also said pollution is down 20-percent, resulting in cleaner air and people with asthma breathing better.

She was was joined by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who said the program has raised close to 550-million-dollars for MTA capital projects, which will make commuting by bus or subway faster and more reliable.

MTA Chief Janno Lieber noted that 2025 was a banner year across the transit system with one-point-nine-billion trips, record on-time performance for the subways, Long Island Railroad and Metro-North, plus surging customer satisfaction.
