(New York, New York) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced Sunday that Dina Levy will serve as the city’s next commissioner of the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Mamdani made the announcement at a Bronx news conference, calling Levy a key addition to his administration as it confronts New York City’s ongoing housing crisis. Levy previously served as a senior official at New York State’s affordable housing agency, where she worked on financing and oversight of housing development projects across the state.

Speaking about the challenges ahead, Levy said the city will need to pursue “sometimes scary innovations” and “rethink how we do business” to expand housing access and improve conditions for tenants.

Also Sunday, Mamdani signed an executive order directing city agencies to hold public hearings where tenants can raise concerns and document alleged landlord abuses.
